Rachel Shatil

The work reflects post war trauma and family loss. Some of the pieces can be described as mementos of a lost past. The pieces are largely figurative, although the figures themselves are often merely implied. The human component is presented through the choice of materials and techniques. Found objects, loaded with significance, combined with traditional materials are assembled, modified, restructured, stuffed, glued, sewn, or braided together. My techniques deliberately indicate a therapeutic process. The final product is generally ambiguous, allowing a wide range of interpretations.
