Vanessa R Thompson
In my body of work I reference the iconography of pop culture to explore issues of gender, sex, aging and consumerism. In my current series I reference the use of vegetables in sound effects for horror films by creating images that evoke the 1970s horror aesthetic with the use of local and seasonal vegetables.
I received an MFA at the Art Institute of Boston in 2005. Since then I have been involved in a few collaborative gallery spaces in the Boston area including, Washington Street are center in Somerville, Atlantic works gallery in East Boston and Gallery 213 in South Boston. I have exhibited my work through out New England, most recently at Stone Crop Gallery in Maine.
