X Bonnie Woods
For many years I have been developing new uses of traditional Asian ink (Sumi) on heavy printmaking paper. I make tools out of found objects, and often use relief-printing and photographic approaches to the painting. Sometimes I use folds to further direct the flow of the ink.
Many of the works are made outdoors in my garden, with controlled exposure to rain and wind. I use simple geometric and natural shapes. The pieces are often map-like or window-like, and sometimes include hidden elements of language.
My studio time is divided between Berlin, Germany, and Boston, Mass., USA. I’ve exhibited work widely in the States and Germany, and am included in private, academic, and corporate collections.
