Marie continues to pursue her dual interests of art-making and environmental science. She received an MFS at the Yale School of Forestry and BA of environmental science at the University of Virginia. After having a career in sustainability and environmental management consulting, she completed the post-baccalaureate studio art program at the SMFA at Tufts in 2022. She was an artist-in-residence at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California in 2023. She currently makes art at 46 Waltham in Boston’s South End; at the Shepherd & Maudsleigh printmaking studio in Newton; and in her Rumney, NH studio. She's a member of the Boston Printmakers and a museum teacher at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Marie Zack Nolan is a mixed-media artist who mines her personal and familial history and examines the interactions of humans with nature through time and space. Her subject matter comes from life experiences, myth making, and a career in environmental problem solving. Marie is drawn to stories handed down in various cultures that have helped humans make sense of their place within the natural environment. Her process involves research, travel to places where tales have originated, and learning about world cultures and religions. Marie makes a series of exploratory drawings on a subject of interest and successively refines them into a single image. She is a printmaker and painter who layers textures, colors, and images. She strives to make her work authentic, aesthetically pleasing, balanced and informative.
